Survivor: Azores was the fifty-seventh season of Survivor.
The season ended when Laura won the title of Sole Survivor, beating Teddy by a 4-1 jury vote at the Final Tribal Council. The season featured 16 contestants dubbed as "castaways" marooned on two separate beaches on the Azores islands. They were divided into two tribes: Corvo in orange and Faial in yellow. The tribes were named after Azores islands. On Day 19, the tribes merged into the red Serozazore tribe, which is "Azores" backward and forward.
The main twist this season was the five-person jury. In the past, there have been seasons with larger or small juries than the typical seven or nine person jury. However, the smallest a jury had ever been was 6, but both cases were due to evacuations. This was a predetermined twist. Producers said they always wanted to experiment with a smaller jury that would make it more difficult to win. The twist was met with extensive negative reviews. It returned once, however, in Survivor: Japan, a season with one of the worst reviews.
This season was met with mixed reviews. EW said, "We give this season 2 stars out of 5. And it's simple why. The pre-merge eight-episode span was not engaging, but it wasn't boring. But we were waiting for the real game to begin at the merge. But then the merge arrived and we only got a 5 person jury? Huh? No one is going to remember Laura or Teddy in three years. Maybe even three months."
Jason Cop, a professional baseball player, was cast this season. He was the 11th person voted out and the 2nd member of the jury, earning him 6th place overall.
